Our client is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to delivering innovative, flexible, and alternative educational programs, products, and services.
This post-secondary institution is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join their Accounting Department on a 12+ month contract. Working cross-functionally with program managers and a variety of external stakeholders, including government funders and financial auditors, this role provides an opportunity to become deeply involved in the organization’s general accounting operations as well as specialized government contracts and grant accounting.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant will play an important role in supporting the financial management of multi-year, multi-million-dollar funding agreements, while working closely with internal teams to ensure accurate reporting, claims, reconciliations, and compliance. Duties and Responsibilities:
The key job functions are:
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for multi-year, multi-million-dollar government contracts and grants, both internally and externally.
- Collaborate with program managers and staff to provide full-cycle accounting support, from budgeting and amendments through ongoing accounting, claims, and audits.
- Maintain a strong understanding of payroll and benefits, as they are central to the majority of funding for program delivery.
- Perform bank reconciliations, payroll imports, intercompany reconciliations, and maintain general ledgers for various legal entities.
- Lead process improvement initiatives across accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and other general accounting processes.
- Assist in year-end financial audits and statutory government reporting, including filings for charitable organizations and regulatory bodies.
- Take on ad hoc projects and initiatives as directed by the Finance Manager.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- CPA designation or progress toward it is a plus.
- Payroll certification, such as PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner), is considered an asset.
Qualifications:
- Clean criminal background check.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn, adapt, and grow professionally.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of intermediate to senior accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit or education sector, with experience managing government contracts and grants.
- Experience with accounting software such as Sage is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and advanced functions, and familiarity with the Microsoft Office environment.

- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to take initiative on projects.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including program managers, auditors, and government funders.
Base Salary: $80,000-85,000 per year
- Salary per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Work Hours:
- 12+ month contract.
- 0.8 FTE.
- 4 days per week, 8 hours per day.
- Monday – Thursday.

- This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
