Frequently Asked Questions

Job Seekers

Application Process

Q: Do your services cost anything?
A: No. Our services are always free for job seekers.
Q: Where do I start?
A: The first step is to send in your resume. We must look at your resume first to see if we have any jobs that may be a fit for you. Find out how to do this by clicking on the link Apply Now! If you are interested in more than one position we have available, you do not need to send in your resume multiple times. Just let us know in your cover letter which positions you are interested in.
Q: I’ve sent in my resume. Now what happens?
A: Your resume is in the hands of our recruiters. Upon reviewing your resume, if we believe we will be able to place you with one of our clients, you will be called to arrange an interview time at our office. This process typically can take up to one week after you have sent in your resume. If you are not called, we most likely do not have an available fit for you at this time. Feel free to apply again or send in an updated resume in the future.
Q: I have been called by your office to come in for an initial interview. What's next?
A: We will send you an email confirming your interview time. This email will also contain a link to our online registration form. Please complete this registration form prior to coming in for your interview. If you receive an error message while filling out your online form, please do not try completing the form again. Instead, come into our office 15 minutes before your scheduled interview, and we will set you up in our office to complete the form. The online form saves each page as you complete it, so despite the error message, it is likely that we received enough of your information and will not need you to complete the form a second time.
Q: What can I expect of this initial job interview?
A: This is a formal job interview. We want to know why our employers should hire you! Dress professionally and present us with your skills, knowledge and goals. The entire initial interview process at our office can take up to an hour to an hour and a half. You will have a formal interview with one of our recruiters. After the interview, you will most likely be asked to do some testing on programs related to the work you are looking for.
Q: I have done my initial interview at your office. When will I get a call about a job opportunity?
A: This will be different for each candidate. At About Staffing, we are all about making the right fit to suit your needs, and our clients' needs. When we think we have a fit for you, we will call you and talk to you about the available position. What we ask of you is that you call us to check in every 1-2 weeks so that we can keep your file up to date, and to inform us that you are still looking for work. You can also check the job postings on our website and call us if there are any available positions that you would like to be considered for. In Calgary call 403-508-1000 and in Edmonton call 780-409-8100.
Q: Can I apply at other agencies and look for jobs on my own?
A: Yes. We encourage you to actively seek work on your own. We do ask, however, that you let us know if you have found work by other means so that we can inactivate your file.

Payroll Process

Temporary Candidates are paid by About Staffing. Direct-Hire candidates are paid directly by the employer and will need to discuss the payroll process with the employer.

Temporary Candidates:

Q: When do I get paid?
A: About Staffing pays candidates weekly. You will be paid on Friday for the previous week's work.
Q: How do I get paid?
A: In order for you to be paid on time, we will need two things from you; your timesheet and your direct deposit information (we only need your direct deposit information once). Your timesheet for the week must be received by SUNDAY AT MIDNIGHT. There are no exceptions as our third party payroll company has strict deadlines in order to process the information. It is always a good idea to call to ensure that your timesheet was received even if you have a fax confirmation.
Q: What is direct deposit information?
A: About Staffing uses a process called EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer). Your pay is directly deposited into your bank account. To complete this process we will need your bank account information, Social Insurance Number, and your date of birth.
Q: What is epost?
A: Epost is a free electronic bill/mail service provided by Canada Post. Epost allows you to view, pay & manage your bills and other financial documents, safely and securely online. After you receive your first pay stub from About Staffing, we will ask you to sign up for epost, so that we can provide your future pay stubs to you electronically.
Q: Why does About Staffing use epost?
A: About Staffing is working towards becoming a greener and more eco-friendly company, and by sending our candidates their pay stubs electronically, we are reducing a large amount of paper waste.
Q: How do I send in my direct deposit information?
A: Direct deposit information forms can be downloaded from our website under Temporary Candidate Forms. Alternatively, you can pick up the forms from our office, or call us at 403-508-1000 in Calgary or 780-409-8100 in Edmonton, and have us fax them to you. Once filled out, please fax back to 403-508-1010 in Calgary, or 780-409-7349 in Edmonton.
Q: Why didn't I get paid?
A: We are missing your timesheet, or your direct deposit information. Or one or both of these were sent in after the deadline – Sunday at midnight. If you missed the deadline, you will be paid the following pay period.
Q: Why didn't I get paid for the Statutory holiday?
A: You were not qualified as per Alberta Labour Standards.

"I haven't used any other agencies. Anytime I call they find a candidate in a timely manner and every time the candidate has worked out for us. They deliver what they say they will."
